The Billboard Is Watching You
Being an admirer...

choucribechir:

The Billboard Is Watching You

Being an admirer of creativity, I think this is awesome !

Amnesty International came up with a great interactive advertisement in 2009. The organisation’s one-off domestic violence awareness billboard is first to respond to people looking at it by using an eye-tracking camera that changes the poster’s display when a viewer looks at the image.

The billboard was created to let people directly experience how domestic violence is hidden from view of the public. It is meant to motivate people to look more closely in the future and help prevent domestic violence. At first, the billboard shows a depiction of what domestic violence looks like; when people look directly at the billboard, the image changed into the same people in the first image pretending to be a normal, happy couple after a slight time delay.

It is great to see this kind of technology being used to raise awareness about such an important issuer that more people need to open their eyes and not only see, but know that they can also help prevent it from happening.

Click on the picture above and see how it works.

Here is what she says about the process:

I begin my process by culling images from fashion magazines. Cropping the image into a portrait, I re-print the image on to a surface to which the printing ink does not adhere, so the image remains wet. I photograph the print as the fluid image morphs and dissolves over time. I then compose a new image from fragments of these photographs—each image each is comprised of slices of the image at various stages of dissolution. Once I have resolved the final composition, I project the basic outlines of the image onto a canvas, and use a print-out of my composition as a painting reference. Each fragment is taped off and painted separately. Because of the narrow width of the fragments (some are less than 1/4 inch wide), I usually paint every third fragment, then while I wait for those fragments to dry, I paint alternating fragments on a different painting. Some paintings require three or four rounds of painting, so I work on several paintings at once. (quote via Colossal)

Performance Art Piece of the Day: For her latest project, “The Birth of Baby X,” Brooklyn-based performance artist Marni Kotak will give birth to an actual baby in front of local art patrons at Bushwick’s microscope gallery.

The birth will be followed by a long-term piece called “Raising Baby X,” which Kotak describes as “an ongoing performance art project that re-contextualizes the everyday act of raising a child as a work of art.”

For the project, Kotak will document every aspect of her child’s life, including, but not limited to, food, education, healthcare, discipline, “and simply loving the child.” Her experiences will be presented in the form of weekly podcast videos and, ultimately, “an anthology of memoirs.”

How long-term is “Raising Baby X”?:

The long-term project will ultimately encompass the overall span of the child’s life from birth through attending college and developing an independent life.

I sincerely hope the only performance art taking place here is the mock-description of a performance art piece only a truly twisted person would even contemplate.

I’ve been viscerally aware of Simon Birch’s paintings for some time, but it wasn’t until stumbling onto his latest series, Laughing With a Mouth Full of Blood, that I really stopped to consider his staggering talent. The paintings from this series use bold, bright color that’s applied in angular, almost geometric brush strokes creating these wonderful portraits. Birch is a U.K.-born artist of Armenian descent who now lives and works in Hong Kong. He’s represented by Future Industries where you can see many more paintings from this exhibition. My tales are a rich mixture of precious childhood memories and fairy tales. I weave together lines to celebrate the beauty and elegance of nature and human form. And sprinkled within that tapestry are touches of whimsy that bring to mind the wonderment of childhood and play. It is my way of rekindling youth with a wink and infinite mirth”

I am always amazed at Marion Bolognesi’s ability to...

I am always amazed at Marion Bolognesi’s ability to capture such a lot of story and emotion through her simple watercolours of peoples’ eyes. Here are two of the first entries.

On the left is the remake of Henri Cartier-Bresson’s “Behind the Gare Saint-Lazare, 1932″ (done by Ollie Jarman), and on the right is the remake of Caravaggio’s “Narcissus” (by Max Zerrahn).

Here are four of my favourites:

fatal paper airplane crash

stubble self portrait (drawn with a toothpick)

sock puppet in the nude

shark
